Do you have a child interested in music? Students have general music from kindergarten through fifth grade, which includes participation in the annual spring elementary program, which coincides with Grandparents’ Day. Band begins in fourth grade and choir in sixth grade. Do you have a child gifted in music? Below lists several of the areas in which gifted music students can use their talents. 2011-2012 Events and Activities
Mark your calendars and join us for the following upcoming events!
Harvest Festival – October 21 - This is the annual kick-off for our pep band by hosting the cake walk at the elementary festival. All those who participates in the “cake walk” while the pep band plays has the opportunity to win a tasty home-baked treat if they’re on the right number when the music stops!
High School Pep Band – Warrior fans look forward to hearing the pep band at select basketball games through the season. Here are the pep band dates for the 2011-2012 season: December 13, January 6, 20, 24, 31, February 14 and 24. E.C.S. band alumni are encouraged to join us!
Annual Pie Sale – End of October – Along with the cookie dough sale in February, the funds raised during the pie sale go a long way in supporting the music department. Contact us if you’d like to get ahead on your holiday baking by purchasing some pies! Pies can also be purchased to donate to local food pantries, which we will deliver for you! A great way to brighten up the holiday of those in need.
Middle School Fall Concert – Friday, November 18, at 7:00 p.m. in the Parmelee Gym. This annual concert features the middle school band and choir and the 5th grade band.
High School Winter Concert - Thursday, December 1, at 7:00 p.m. in the Parmelee Gym. Come hear the sounds of the season from our high school band and choir.
High School Choir Performances – The high school choir for a number of years has participated in the Channel 13 Holiday Moments In addition, the high school choir will be caroling throughout the Toledo Zoo during the Lights Before Christmas. . Check back closer to the holidays for the time and date of the choir’s performances.
More Caroling! – On three different days throughout the holiday season, select choir students from the high school, middle school, and 5th grade carol at various locations throughout the area. The high school has performed at St. Anne’s, Westfield Franklin Park, Sunset House, Flower Hospital Cancer Center and Goerlich Center, to name just a few. The middle school travels to several retirement homes in the area and lights up the faces of many seniors. The fifth graders sing at retail establishments in the area such as The Anderson’s, Hobby Lobby, and Kroger’s.
High School Solo and Ensemble through Ohio Music Educators Association – High school band and choir students have the opportunity to perform as either a soloist or in a small group.
Young People’s Concert – This is an annual outing for students in various grades to hear the Toledo Symphony. Themes have varied from the “Science of Sound” (in coordination with the Imagination Station) to “Toledo Natives” (featuring musicians from Northwest Ohio).
Annual Showcase of the Arts –Students from various grades participate in this event in February sponsored by the Toledo Symphony League. Check back in March for the results of this year's Showcase.
Cedarville Music Showcase Honors Band and Choir –in February at Cedarville University - Outstanding high school band and choir students will attend this three day event with students from across the state, which culminates in a honors band and choir concert on Saturday.
Annual Cookie Dough Sale – February– This is one of our biggest fundraisers of the year. Please contact us if you would like to support the music department through this delicious fundraiser!
University of Toledo Honors Band – Select high school band students participate in this annual honors band held at the university. The hard work of the students is showcased in a concert on Sunday afternoon.
Association of Christian Schools International (Ohio) Elementary Music Festival – April – This will be the third year our fifth grade band will participate in the festival, not only as a band, but also as soloists and small groups.
Annual Elementary Program – May 4- Old and young alike look forward to the annual elementary program. There will be two performances – for grandparents at 10:30 pm and at 7 pm for family and friends. Both performances will be held in the auditorium at Emmanuel Baptist Church (1/4 mile east of the school).
Middle School Band & Choir, 4th-5th Grade Bands Spring Concert – May 18 @ 7 pm – Parmelee Gym - The public is welcome to any of our concerts!
High School Spring Concert – May 24 @ 7 pm – Parmelee Gym - For the high school band and choir, this last concert of the year is a highlight. Not only are the seniors in band and choir honored, but any alumni in attendance are invited to join the choir for the song, "With All My Heart".
Fundraisers
The annual pie sale and cookie dough sale are two of our major fundraisers during the school year. The events not only help the music department’s "Give a Child the Gift of Music" scholarship fund, but also enable us to purchase large items such as tubular chimes, tubas, bells, etc. Other fundraisers that we will be holding this year are as follows:
Market Day – Monthly purchases of food items that everyone uses. Check out the great selection at www.marketday.com . The music department’s account number is 15300.
Family Night Out – Take the family out and help the music department at the same time! These have been such a HUGE success, we are continuing this new family tradition!
o Cici's Pizza – October 21 (coordinated with Harvest Festival)
o Abuelo’s – January 16 – No school! A great day to take the family out.
o Elephant Bar – Date to be scheduled.
o Cici’s – May 4 – Grandparents can take the grandchildren out for lunch after the elementary program!
o Cici’s – June 1 – School’s out! Time to celebrate with pizza!
NOTE: Check back a week before each Family Night Out to print the special flyer to present at the restaurant, so that E.C.S. fully benefits from these fundraisers.
